Stem Cell Bank nOvum
Stem Cell Bank nOvum was established in 2004 by specialists who run nOvum Fertility Clinic. Cryopreservation of tissues, such as embryos, semen or ovarian tissue, is an essential element of the Clinic’s activity. Our Fertility Clinic can be proud of the 23,000 pregnancies in its history – the number which is increasing each day. Stem Cell Bank nOvum was the first bank in Poland which was founded by doctors: dr Katarzyna Kozioł, gynaecologist/obstetrician and clinical embryologist, and dr Piotr Lewandowski, gynaecologist/obstetrician.
Why choose us?
The well-being of patients is our priority
We offer the possibility of a cost-free withdrawal from the contract. We do not charge Customers an initial fee if the collection kit is unused. In case of resignation up to 14 days from the collection, we do not charge the initial fee.
First year of storing included in the initial fee
We do not charge Customers an annual fee for the first year of deposit storage. Detailed information about the initial fee is available in the price list
Placental blood
We enable full use of the available material thanks to the additional option of collecting placental blood.
Safety
Our headquarters are under 24-hour surveillance and protection. The Building Management System informs employees by mobile phone network about every important change in the building environment. Cryostats are additionally secured with batteries that support their operation in the event of a power failure.
Direct transport
We provide safe blood transport from the hospital directly to the SCB nOvum headquarters. We are aware that the umbilical cord blood stem cells are very precious, therefore, the collected blood is transported only by experienced and trained couriers. If there is a need to interrupt the journey, the driver will not leave the collection kit unattended in the car.
Laboratories
The Bank has its own, modern laboratories: microbiological, serological, preparation and cord blood storage. Only authorised employees have access to those laboratories. Preparation of stem cells takes place in a closed (sterile) system, using sealer for sterile connection of the drains. During the entire process, blood does not come into contact with the external environment, which allows eliminating the risk of sample contamination.
The uniqueness of packages
As the first and only stem cell bank in Poland, we offer division of the deposit into 5 or 10 independent portions. Each cassette with the deposit has two test samples attached, which can be used to perform testing before transplantation or tissue histocompatibility testing of the donor and the recipient (e.g. siblings).
The team
SCB nOvum team consist of employees with proven, many-years’ experience in the execution of laboratory procedures, managing the processes of preparation and cryopreservation of the umbilical cord blood stem cells.
The cryopreservation
The system for storage of frozen cells used in our Bank secures cell viability thanks to the elimination of the TWE (Transient Warming Events) effect (a temperature rise caused by inserting or removing the deposits).
Basis for operation
The Bank’s operations are authorised by the Ministry of Health. The accreditation is assigned every 5 years. Moreover, SCB nOvum undergoes detailed inspections conducted by the National Centre for Tissue and Cell Banking every 2 years.
